old-world charm

How it all began…

Sandy and I recently experienced a Mount Nelson Afternoon Tea in Cape Town and we fell in love with the old-world charm of the bygone era.

We learned that in 1840, it was Duchess Anna Russell, who first requested a tray of tea, bread, butter and cakes to be sent to her room at 4pm as dinner was served so late. She started inviting friends to enjoy it with her and by 1880, this was a fashionable way to entertain.

We have drawn from our experience and have crafted an Oak Leaf Afternoon Tea offering which can be booked for special occasions, celebrations or just a wonderful little treat.

What to expect

Weather permitting, your table will be set inside near a fireplace or outside in the beautiful garden, under umbrellas. The table will be laid with linen tablecloths and napkins and set with fresh flowers.

The delectable selection of sweet and savoury treats will be served on tiered cake platters and will consist of 6 sweet treats, 6 savoury treats and a basket of freshly baked butter scones with jam & whipped cream.

Each guest will receive a complimentary glass of Brut Classique MCC and can then order unlimited speciality teas and coffees.

Reservation details

High Tea can be booked for any day Tuesday – Sunday between 11am – 3pm. Please note that we will require at least 2 days notice in order to prepare.

We can also tailor-make your afternoon tea to suit special dietary requirements or budget.

Orange & Spices Rooibos
Rooibos flavoured with cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, vanilla and orange.

Blood Orange Honeybush
Honeybush flavoured with blood orange essence and orange pieces presents a less sweet and citrus edge of a honeybush base. Rich, brilliant and brightly coloured.

Black Teas

Lady Grey
Gentle bergamot flavours with a touch of Turkish rose. The aroma of citrus bergamot resonates with rose to further extend the creaminess of this black tea.

Rose Congou
This black tea belongs to the classic, scented Chinese teas. The black tea leaves and rose petals are layered during production to infuse the tea with the floral scent. It can be enjoyed with milk, if desired

Oolong Tea

Peach Jasmine Oolong
When sweet blooming jasmine is paired with peach, tea connection is rapidly raised to a whole different level. Resonance of fruity and floral notes is aimed to extend the sentimental experience. This angelic tea releases memories reflecting fluffy clouds and blossoming petals
