There’s something special about seeing your story told through someone else’s eyes.
Recently, Oak Leaf was featured in South Magazine, a moment that gave us pause to reflect on how far this journey has come. What started as a simple idea, two sisters, a shared love of food, and a small market stall, has slowly grown into something much bigger than we ever imagined!
In those early days at the Wild Oats Market, our focus was clear: create food that felt good, tasted honest, and brought people together. From there, things evolved naturally. There were lessons along the way, shifts in direction, and a growing understanding of what our community really wanted from us.
The move to Belvidere marked a turning point. The old property we passed every day became an opportunity to build something with heart. Not just a restaurant, but a space where people could gather, linger, and feel at home.
Over time, that vision expanded into what is now Acorn Square, a small village of like-minded businesses, each adding its own layer to the experience. It’s become a place shaped not just by us, but by the people who visit, work, and spend time here.
Being featured in South Magazine reminded us that this journey has never just been about food. It’s about community, creativity, and creating spaces that people want to return to, again and again.
